If you or a loved one suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or concussion, our team offers several therapies to aid in recovery and rehabilitation. Our practitioners, including a neurosurgeon, medical doctors, and chiropractic physicians, prescribe physiotherapy and other techniques as a part of a multi-faceted TBI/concussion therapy and rehabilitation program.
Our team understands the key role physiotherapy can play in rehabilitation from a serious head injury. Contact us today by calling (239) 631-5445 to schedule your intake examination or to learn more.

Treatments We May Prescribe to TBI/Concussion Patients
Each case is different, so no two patients will have the same therapy plan. Rehabilitation requires conducting an initial assessment, understanding the individual’s goals, and prescribing therapies that address them. Then, we constantly reassess the patient and their plan every visit.
While we cannot tell you what therapies we might prescribe for you until you visit us, some of the most frequently used treatments in our office include:
Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT)
CIMT addresses motor control and movement concerns on one side of the body. The goal of this therapy is to rebuild strength and relearn muscle control on the affected side. We do this by restraining the stronger limb or limbs and reducing the patient’s ability to rely on it during exercises.
Weight-Supported Treadmill Training
Our rehabilitation team uses a weight-supported treadmill to help patients regain leg strength, retrain their gait, and work on balance. This treadmill features a harness system that lifts some of the weight off the patient’s legs and keeps them upright during activity. This also makes it possible for patients with lower-limb injuries or hip and pelvic injuries to remain active during their recovery.
Constraint-Induced Language Therapy
Speech is often a concern following a serious TBI. If you or a loved one needs to work on breath control, muscle movement, or other components of clear speech, our team is here to help you. We prescribe verbal exercises to help recover speech and strengthen related functions.
Vestibular Rehabilitation and Oculomotor Therapy
If you or your loved one suffers balance and coordination issues following a TBI/concussion, vestibular and/or oculomotor rehabilitation may be necessary. We often pair exercises meant to retrain these bodily systems with therapies to strengthen the rest of the body, helping patients become stronger than they were before their injury.
Complementary Therapies
We prescribe many complementary therapies alongside physiotherapy. These may include:
- Massage therapy
- Infrared light therapy
- Electrical stimulation (ES)
These treatments could increase blood flow to the injured area, speeding healing. They could also reduce pain and inflammation.
How TBI/Concussion Rehabilitation Works
At Naples Community Injury Center, we offer a wide range of therapies, including physiotherapy. Our treatment plans focus on rebuilding, strengthening, and retraining the body and body systems. This could include almost any muscle in the body—including those that control eye and mouth movement.
We determine each patient’s unique needs during their initial intake exam. We generally conduct a comprehensive health screening, examine relevant medical records, run tests, and complete medical imaging. This exam allows us to better understand your needs so we can create an individualized treatment plan.
For patients experiencing neck or back pain or stiffness, we also prescribe and perform chiropractic care. This could help address chronic back or neck pain, tingling in the arms and hands, headaches, and other issues.

Understanding the Lasting Effects of TBIs and Concussions on Injury Victims
Traumatic Brain injuries are among the most catastrophic injuries that occur. They can be life-altering, and some people never fully recover. Even seemingly minor head injuries like concussions can have a significant effect on your daily life.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists concussion symptoms that include:
- Trouble with short- or long-term memory
- Appearing dazed or unable to focus
- Lack of coordination
- Struggling with balance
- Slowed responses
- Loss of consciousness
- Blurry or double vision
- Headache, often with sensitivity to light and noise
- Nausea
- Confusion
- Change in mood or behavior
- Chronic pain
Those with mild concussions might not notice symptoms, but traumatic injury victims may need more targeted treatment for lingering symptoms or lasting effects. Our healthcare providers may prescribe physical therapy and several other techniques.
In addition to managing cases where the patient suffered a concussion, our neurosurgeon, doctors, and physical therapists also create care plans for patients with more serious TBIs and related cognitive concerns.
